FILING SYSTEM IN LAOS PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC FOR TRADEMARK APPLICATION

A. GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Member: Paris Convention;
2. System:   First-to-File System and Application for Registration or Renewal of a Mark in Laos covers only one(1) Trademark in One (1) class of goods or services;
3. Duration of examination till registration: 6 – 7 months;
4. The term of protection in Laos is 10 years from the filing date.  Trademark registration is renewable for unlimited times, each of 10 years.

B. FILING REQUIREMENTS (For filing new trademark application)

1. Duly accomplished trademark application form – (to be accomplished by our Firm but we need the following information:
   • the mark for registration;
   • full name, address and nationality of the applicant;
   • list of goods/services.
2. Simply signed Authorization and Appointment of Resident agent;
3. 20 specimens of the mark (the size of the specimen should not be smaller than 5 x 5 cm and no larger than 10 x 10 cm) – prepared at our end to ensure full compliance with formal requirements.
4. Certified copy of the Regulations governing the use of the mark (where the mark is collective mark – required in filing).
