FILING  SYSTEM IN LAOS PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC FOR INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

A. GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Member: PARIS CONVENTION;
  2. Filing documents should be in English or French and the Laotian version should be submitted within 3 months from the filing date;
  3. Time for claiming priority under Paris Convention: 6 months
  4. Filing of application to grant of registration: about 6 months;
  5. Validity term of a Design Patent – 5 years and renewable for 2 consecutive periods of 5 years.

B. FILING REQUIREMENTS

  1. Duly accomplished patent application form – (to be accomplished by our Firm but we need the following information:
    • Name, address and nationality of the applicant;
    • Name, address and nationality of the designer;
    • Title of the design stating the article for which registration is sought;
    • Country, application number and filing date of the original foreign application from which priority is claimed (if applicable);
  2. Simply signed Authorization and Appointment of Resident agent;
  3. Seven (7) sets of drawings illustrating  the design with the size A4 (210mm x 297mm).  There must be as many pictures/drawings of the design as they are taken to show all the different sides of the design (comprising front, back, top, bottom, left, right and perspective views); the drawings are prepared at our end to ensure full compliance with formal requirements.
  4. Description of the design;
  5. Certified copy of the priority application (if any)
